Applications of Poultry Manure Rotary Dryer
Kerone’s Poultry Manure Rotary Dryer are extensively used in industries. Typical applications include:
Converting poultry waste into organic fertilizer
Producing pelletized manure for agricultural use
Enhancing sanitation through moisture removal
Preparing poultry litter for energy recovery systems
The Poultry Manure Rotary Dryer provides dependable, efficient, and customizable drying capabilities suitable for diverse industrial segments, ensuring productivity and consistent output quality.
Poultry manure rotary dryers are widely used in the organic fertilizer industry to reduce moisture content and convert wet manure into stable, nutrient-rich fertilizer. By drying the manure efficiently, these systems help eliminate pathogens, control odor, and improve storage life, making the final product suitable for bagging, transportation, and agricultural use.
They are also applied in large poultry farms and integrated farming operations to manage waste in an eco-friendly manner. The dried output can be further processed into granulated organic fertilizer, compost blends, or soil conditioners, supporting sustainable farming practices and reducing environmental pollution.
In addition, poultry manure rotary dryers are used in bioenergy projects where dried manure serves as a biomass fuel or as a raw material for biogas production. This application helps convert agricultural waste into valuable energy resources while minimizing landfill disposal and greenhouse gas emissions.

Kerone provides multiple customization options for capacity, controls, and thermal systems.
Food, chemical, pharma, agriculture, and material‑processing sectors extensively use it.
The system is optimized to reduce energy use while maintaining high drying efficiency.
Drying poultry manure reduces moisture from 65–75% (in fresh form) to below 12%, producing a stable, pathogen-free organic fertilizer that can be bagged, transported, and applied efficiently. Challenges include the high ammonia content (requiring temperature control to preserve nitrogen), strong and pervasive odor, potential pathogen content requiring adequate heat treatment, and the fibrous/sticky nature of fresh manure at intermediate moisture levels.
Most regulatory guidelines for organic fertilizer from poultry manure require the material to be heated to at least 70°C for 60 minutes, or equivalent time-temperature combinations, to ensure reduction of Salmonella, E. coli O157, and other pathogens to safe levels. Rotary dryer outlet temperature monitoring and residence time documentation are used to demonstrate compliance with these requirements during product certification audits.
Nitrogen in poultry manure is largely present as uric acid and ammonia, both of which can volatilize at elevated temperatures. Minimizing inlet gas temperature (150–180°C), maintaining the dryer outlet temperature at 70–80°C, operating with a counter-current gas flow arrangement, and adding acidifying agents (phosphoric acid or aluminum sulfate) to the feed can significantly reduce ammonia volatilization and preserve the fertilizer nitrogen value.
Poultry manure drying produces very high concentrations of odorous compounds, particularly ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and various volatile organic acids. Mandatory odor control systems include exhaust gas collection and treatment through acid scrubbers (for ammonia), biofilters, or thermal oxidizers. The entire dryer system must operate under slight negative pressure to prevent fugitive odor release. Site selection with buffer zones and odor dispersion modeling is required for regulatory approval.
Dried poultry manure typically contains approximately 3–5% nitrogen (N), 1.5–4% phosphorus (as P2O5), and 1.5–3% potassium (as K2O), plus significant micronutrients. Broiler litter (with bedding material) has somewhat different values than layer manure. The exact NPK content varies with feed composition, bird age, and litter management. Dried products are tested and labeled with guaranteed analysis for commercial sale.
Yes, granulation of poultry manure can be integrated with drying in two configurations: pan granulation or drum granulation of partially dried manure followed by final drying in a separate rotary dryer, or rotary drum granulation-drying in a single drum. Granulation improves product appearance, reduces dust, enables uniform application with farm equipment, and increases market price. Pelletized poultry manure fertilizer commands significant premium prices in retail and export markets.
