Introduction

Kerone brings over 50 years of experience in designing high-performance cylinders dryers for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications. Built with advanced heat transfer mechanisms and automated controls, Kerone’s cylinders dryers are engineered to deliver optimal drying performance while maintaining product integrity.
Cylinder Dryers — also known as drum dryers or can dryers in specific industries — are continuous sheet drying systems widely used in the paper and board industry, textile industry, and for drying continuous web or sheet materials. The system consists of a series of large-diameter, internally steam-heated rotating cylinders (cans) over which the web of paper, board, or fabric passes in serpentine fashion, with the moist sheet wrapped around successive heated cylinders to progressively evaporate moisture by contact conductive heating. In the paper industry, cylinder drying sections represent the dominant drying method, using banks of 50–100 or more cylinders arranged in single-tier or double-tier configurations to dry paper from 50–60% moisture content at the press section to typically 5–8% at the reel. Cylinder dryers are the highest-throughput, most energy-efficient drying system for continuous sheet materials.

Why Choose Kerone Cylinders Dryers

Kerone’s cylinders dryers are known for their quality, durability, and energy optimization. Each unit is engineered to meet specific process needs, ensuring reduced drying times, higher throughput, and superior quality output. The systems integrate innovative heating technologies, allowing maximum efficiency with minimal energy loss.
Kerone designs cylinder dryers with high-quality cast iron or fabricated steel cylinders precisely balanced for high-speed rotation, with siphon steam condensate removal systems that maintain efficient heat transfer by preventing condensate flooding of cylinder interiors. The dryer section is designed with felt/fabric runs that maintain intimate contact between the sheet and cylinder surfaces to maximize conductive heat transfer. Kerone provides complete dryer section engineering including cylinder arrangements, bearing housings, drives, hood systems for heat recovery, and moisture profiling controls.

Types and Features of Cylinders Dryers

Kerone manufactures Cylinder Dryers in several configurations for different industries. Single-Tier Cylinder Dryer Sections have all cylinders in a single row with the web making complete wraps around alternate cylinders; they provide excellent sheet contact and are used in paper machine rebuild projects. Double-Tier Cylinder Dryer Sections are the standard configuration in conventional paper machines, with two rows of staggered cylinders over which the sheet passes in an undulating path supported by drying fabrics. Yankee Dryers are single large-diameter cylinders (3.5–6 m diameter) used in tissue paper manufacturing to simultaneously dry and crêpe the paper sheet, providing both moisture removal and the characteristic texture of tissue. Multi-Cylinder Textile Dryer Sections dry woven and nonwoven fabrics on banks of steam-heated cylinders, with careful control of fabric tension to prevent distortion. Can Dryer Sections in specialty chemical and food applications use heated cylinders to dry coatings, films, and laminated materials on continuous substrates.
