Kerone specializes in advanced rotary calciner solutions designed for precise thermal processing, controlled chemical reactions, and high-efficiency industrial operations. With decades of engineering expertise, Kerone builds customized systems that ensure uniform heating, reliable performance, and seamless integration into diverse industrial applications.
Rotary calciners, also generally called indirect kilns, are utilized in various calcination operations where exhaust gases must be minimized, when processing finely divided solids, or where temperature must be tightly controlled along the length of the kiln.
A calciner is comprised of a rotating drum inside a furnace, which is externally heated. Unlike direct- fired kilns, which use direct contact between the material and process gas to carry out processing, in a calciner, heat is transferred from the shell of the externally heated kiln to the bed of material through radiation.
Rotary calciners are available in various configurations to suit diverse industrial applications, including direct-fired and indirect-fired designs. Direct rotary calciners expose the material directly to the combustion gases, making them suitable for processes requiring high heat transfer rates and large throughput. Indirect rotary calciners, on the other hand, prevent direct contact between the material and combustion gases, ensuring precise temperature control and contamination-free processing—ideal for sensitive materials. These systems can be customized with refractory linings, variable speed drives, advanced burner systems, and automated control panels to optimize performance.
Key features of rotary calciners include uniform heat distribution, continuous operation capability, and efficient thermal processing of powders, granules, and bulk solids. The rotating cylindrical shell ensures consistent material movement and uniform calcination, while adjustable inclination and rotation speed allow control over residence time. Rotary calciners are designed for high thermal efficiency, low maintenance, and long service life, with options for waste heat recovery and emission control systems. Their robust construction and flexibility make them suitable for industries such as cement, chemicals, minerals, and metallurgy.
